About Me
Who I am, what I do and why I do it

BIO

My name is Andrew Joseph Coomes. I am 23 years old, and I am a drifter. I also go to Portland Community College, where I am studying for my Associate degree.
I've been driving for three years, and drifting for two. 2008 was my first racing season, and I drove in 21 events - 14 drift events, 6 autocrosses and 1 rallycross. I placed 4th drifting at Smackdown II, a team event in Packwood, Washington, and drove in an Evergreen Drift Championship event - the largest drift series in the Northwest.
In January 2008 I started a club called Touge Spec, with two main goals in mind - giving members a group of like-minded enthusiasts to drive with and improve their skills, and helping drivers take their racing off the street and onto the track.

In 2008 I lauched into motorsports at full throttle, discovered my love for the sport of drifting, and learned that I have the potential to do well in it.
In 2009 I set my goals high and the results were solid; I was on the Evergreen Drift podium and competed in the ProAm qualifier events at both Las Vegas and Evergreen Speedway. I qualified and recieved an invitation to the ProAm Nationals at Irwindale, CA, where I competed with top drivers from all over the US in an attempt to earn my Formula D license.
2010 will be my defining year; once again my goals are set high. I plan to be a regular on the Evergreen Drift ProAm series podium, and drive in the National Championship once more in what will likely be my last opportunity to earn my pro license.

What Is Drifting?

Drifting is the art of purposely achieving extreme oversteer. Oversteer is a driving condition in which the rear of a car has a greater slip angle than the front. Another commonly known form of this is called "power sliding", and drifting is the art and motorsport which has developed from this type of driving. Drifting has been hailed as "the fastest growing motorsport" countless times and been deemed a "blue-chip industry" by Esquire magazine. Formula Drift events (the premier drifting series in the US) often attract over 10,000 spectators.
